Handel was never fresher, more Roman nor more thrilling
Handel was never fresher, more Roman nor more thrilling than in his very first oratorio, “The Triumph of Time and Truth”, composed in Rome in 1707. It is a dazzling display of arias for four soloists and orchestra, culminating in the famous “Lascia la spina”. Michael Hell unleashes the passion of Handel’s “furioso” in the strings and subdues it in the flutes’ “grazioso”. The roles of Beauty, Pleasure, Time and Knowledge are sung by four fantastic young voices.
