Monteverdi at the festival finale

Ein Heer fantastischer Musikerinnen und Musiker mit Maestro Savall unter einem barocken Himmelsgewölbe: Der „steirische Petersdom“ in Pöllau ist genau der richtige Raum für die Marienvesper, die Monteverdi dem Barockpapst Paul V. Borghese anno 1610 zu Rom gewidmet hat. Alles, was die Musik seiner Zeit zur Verherrlichung der Gottesmutter aufzubieten hatte, vereinigte Monteverdi in dieser Vesper: prachtvolle Chöre, virtuose Solisten, brillante Instrumente, tief bewegende Klangrede und feierlichen Kontrapunkt.

This orchestra, founded by Jordi Savall and his wife Montserrat Figueras in 1989, is a sounding legend. It is made up of first-rate specialists in early music - and is constantly committed to the ideal of a lively synthesis of historically informed performance practice and personal appropriation of art.

There is no early music fan who does not know the name Jordi Savall. There is no award that the "Ambassador of the European Union for Cultural Dialogue" has not won in the course of his world career. So it is all the more enjoyable that the Catalan, born in 1941, has been one of the Styriarte's closest and most loyal friends for decades.
