12 projects on 14 islands of music

The Styriarte’s 40th birthday present to itself and Graz is a cheerful little musical festival. Twelve projects, divided into fourteen music islands, invite you to join the celebrations.

We aim to surprise the people of Graz and their guests with a light-hearted programme to show what the Styriarte of today and tomorrow can and wishes to be. The performances are free of charge.

The Styriarte Cycling Concert 2025 is also a part of “Vorspiel” (prelude). Five short concerts are performed along the route. We cycle in groups with a guide, approximately 20 kilometres altogether. The trip starts at Nikolaus Harnoncourt Parc.

Ārt House 17

Ensemble

Diving deep into historical music and its history(ies): That is the mission of the young Graz-based ensemble Ārt House 17, for which Michael Hell and Georg Kroneis have brought together some of the best specialists in their field. Their repertoire ranges from Pergolesi to Mozart and Offenbach. The ensemble is currently establishing itself internationally and is celebrating huge successes at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, for example.

Michael Hell

Direction, Recorder, Harpsichord, Organ

Michael Hell, born in North Rhine-Westphalia, is a virtuoso on both the recorder and the harpsichord whose reputation extends far beyond his adopted home of Graz. He is also a leading expert in basso continuo and historical performance practice, who knows how to convey the rules and history of his art with infectious enthusiasm.

Thomas Höft

Dramatic adviser

Zwoadreivier

Ensemble

Clearly ambiguous! True to this motto, the female vocal trio from Graz takes on local folk music and presents old as well as long-forgotten songs in a particularly fresh and cheerful way.

HIB.art.chor

Choir

Under the direction of Maria Fürntratt, the singers of the HIB.art.chor, consisting of students of the HIB Graz-Liebenau, have been offered comprehensive vocal training since 1995. In numerous international performances from Norway to South Africa and Shanghai to San Francisco, the choir's repertoire ranges from Austrian choral tradition to contemporary music.

Maria Fürntratt

Direction

The Graz-based teacher of school music, singing and French has received numerous educational and artistic awards for her choral work at the HIB Graz-Liebenau - most recently the Nikolaus Harnoncourt Culture Prize of the Province of Styria in 2018. Maria Fürntratt has also been a senior lecturer for choral pedagogy, teaching and vocal practice and children's and youth voice training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz since 2007.

Christoph Steiner

Actor, Director, Kinderzimmer-Captain

As an actor, author, singer and Austrian poetry slam champion, Graz-born Christoph Steiner is at home on many stages and is a convincing musical performer at Graz Opera, a permanent member of the ensemble at Next Liberty and captain of the children's room at Styriarte.
