Denovaire plays Esraj at Styriarte 2020

After studying Indian music in Delhi and Benares, the composer and live musician Denovaire devoted himself to non-European sounds as well as to the European avant-garde tradition. His live performances are also extraordinary, moving between the styles of instant composing, noise, world and ambient.

The composer and live musician Denovaire studied composition with Gerd Kühr, Georg Friedrich Haas, Pierluigi Billone and Beat Furrer in Graz. After studying Indian music in Delhi and Benares, he devoted himself to non-European sounds as well as the European avant-garde tradition. Besides composing, he performs live with keyboards and the Indian string instrument Esraj in styles ranging from instant composing and noise to world and ambient.

He conducts the Styrian Improvisers Orchestra, performs with musicians from the improv scene and produces recordings for music publishers. His compositions are played by many renowned ensembles.

He received the Music Promotion Prize of the City of Graz in 2006 and a state scholarship for composition in 2012 as well as first prize at the Gustav Mahler Composition Prize. He lives and works in Graz.
