revolutionary Yiddish songs
Born in Vienna, Isabel Frey grew up in a secular Jewish family, so her roots are in both Austrian and Jewish culture. After a social year in a kibbutz in Israel, she studied social sciences in Amsterdam and became a political activist in various movements for more social justice. In this context, Frey stumbled upon the tradition of revolutionary Yiddish music, in which she was able to unite her Jewish identity with her political activism. Returning to Vienna after her studies, Frey plays her revolutionary Yiddish songs at both concerts and demonstrations and is involved in academic and journalistic work on the identity of the Jewish diaspora.
