Javus Quartet

Anyone who is praised by critics for their "perfect technique" and "maximum range in dynamics and timbre" is passionate about their profession. The ECHO Rising Star Ensemble's triumphant success began at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in 2016 and continues today on the most prestigious concert stages between the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.

About the quartet

ECHO Rising Stars

The Javus Quartet, based in Salzburg, is comprised of violinists Marie-Therese Schwöllinger and Alexandra Moser, violist Marvin Stark, and cellist Oscar Hagen. Having performed together in various formations for many years, the four young musicians officially founded the Javus Quartet in 2016.

Career

Their artistic development has been profoundly shaped by Lukas Hagen, first violinist of the Hagen Quartet. The ensemble is currently studying with Johannes Meissl (Artis Quartet) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and with Gregor Sigl (Artemis Quartet) at the Berlin University of the Arts. In addition, they draw artistic inspiration from leading figures in the international chamber music scene including Eberhard Feltz, Hatto Beyerle, Gerhard Schulz, Valentin Erben, Veronika Hagen, Rainer Schmidt, and Thomas Adès.

On stage

The quartet has established a regular presence on renowned international stages including the Musikverein Wien, Wiener Konzerthaus, Konzerthaus Blaibach, Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg, and Wigmore Hall in London. They are also regularly featured at prestigious international festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and Mozartwoche in Salzburg. Their chamber music partners include Valentin Erben (Alban Berg Quartet), Jean and Agnès Sulem, Matthias Schorn, and Pauline Sachse.

Awards

The Javus Quartet has received numerous awards, including the Jürgen Ponto Foundation Music Prize (2024), the Hans Gál Prize, the Musica Juventutis Prize, the Zukunftsklang Award Stuttgart (2022), and the Audience Award at the Irene Steels-Wilsing Competition as part of the Heidelberger Frühling (2020). The quartet has been named Featured Artist of Jeunesse musik.erleben for the 2025/2026 season. Nominated by the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Musikverein Wien, and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Javus Quartet has been selected as an ECHO Rising Star for the 2026/2027 season.
