Between Jazz Tradition and Musical Discovery
Austrian jazz guitarist Johannes Mandl hails from Aflenz Kurort and brings together a variety of influences to shape his own musical voice. Among his inspirations are Django Reinhardt, Jim Hall, Mick Goodrick and Wolfgang Muthspiel, whose distinctive styles resonate in his playing in many different ways. Having completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Mandl is currently pursuing his master's degree there under the guidance of Professor Alex Goodman. A versatile musician, he regularly performs with a range of ensembles, including the Zoran Schmitz Trio, the KUG Jazz Collective and his own trio, Wandler. Most recently, he featured on Motion, an album by Thomas Quendler, winner of the Ö1 Jazz Scholarship.
