Katharina Klement
Katharina Klement treads innovative paths as a “composer performer” of improvised, electronic and instrumental music and creates cross connections between music, text and video. In addition, the Graz-born artist is intensively involved with the piano and its extended playing techniques.

Composer-performer with focus on piano
Born in Graz, Katharina Klement studied piano, composition and electroacoustic music at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna and pursued private studies in dance improvisation and sculpture in Graz and Vienna.
She is active as a "composer-performer" in the field of notated and improvised, electronic and instrumental music. Her work includes numerous cross-connecting projects within the fields of music-text-video. She is particularly interested in the piano and its extended playing techniques. Multi-channel sound installations form a further focus. She is founder and member of several ensembles for improvised music (soundog, USE, monocle, subshrubs, deepseafish-K, REDOX).
Klement has received numerous prizes and awards, such as the "honorary mention" at the Prix ars electronica Linz 2006, the Austrian Art Prize in the field of music 2013 or the Gustav Mahler Prize 2017.
Since 2006, she has held a teaching position in the course "Computer Music and Electronic Media" at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Her works have appeared on numerous CDs, including on her own label KalK. She lives in Vienna.
