Career
Born in Salzburg, Philipp Comploi has been taking cello lessons since the age of seven. He studied with Susanne Riebl at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and with Rudolf Leopold at the University of Music in Graz.
Collaboration
In addition to his concert activities with the Trio Alba, Philipp Comploi is in demand as a section leader and soloist in orchestras and ensembles specialising in performances with historical original instruments. In recent years, he has performed with the La Folia Barockorchester, the Orchester Wiener Akademie, the Bach Consort Wien, the Ensemble Delirio and the Quadriga Consort. He has gained artistic inspiration through his collaboration with Reinhard Göbel, Martin Haselböck, Andreas Lindenbaum, Martin Hornstein and Christophe Coin.
On Stage
Solo and chamber music performances have taken the cellist all over Europe: from the Salzburg Festival, to the Vienna Musikverein and the Vienna Konzerthaus, to China, Canada, the USA, Mexico and Argentina.
At the invitation of the Frédéric Chopin University in Warsaw, Philipp Comploi gave a masterclass in baroque cello in 2014.
Recordings
Philipp Comploi has made numerous recordings for Deutsche Harmonia Mundi (SONY Classical), MDG, Carpe Diem and Capriccio as well as for the Austrian broadcaster ORF and the Italian broadcaster RAI.
