Schubert’s unfinished symphony in B minor lay hidden away in a drawer in Graz – like a “message in a bottle” to the future – until it finally stirred the first listeners in 1865. At the same time, Brahms began to orchestrate Schubert’s Lieder. In the original sound of Concentus Musicus and supported by the perfect acoustics of the Stefaniensaal, Schubert’s symphony and Lied compositions seem as true and direct as at the time of their making. For Stefan Gottfried and Florian Boesch, this evening is an homage to the greatest Schubert conductor of their time: Nikolaus Harnoncourt.
Pre-concert talk at 07.15 pm at Stefaniensaal. Admission free!
