“I was more composed by the piece than it was by me,” says Mark Andre about his one-hour piano piece … selig ist … . It had its premiere at the Donaueschingen Music days 2024, played by top pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, who plays it now at Helmut List Halle – with all the sound effects that can be created in and around a grand piano, which is what make this “breakable, fragile music” so charming. “It’s about music fading away, music disappearing.  And it’s about the disappearance of a child, the son of a close friend,” says Mark Andre. “Afterwards there is nothing – this has been the central theme of my work for decades.”
