A programme tailor-made for Mei-Ann Chen. The American with the uncanny sense for rich sound draws the utmost ecstasy from Ravel’s Bolero and contrasts the Frenchman’s Spanish music with the Andean sounds of Californian Gabriela Lena Frank. In between, Russian violinist Nikita Boriso-Glebsky gives a brilliant rendition of the legendary Sarasate’s two great international successes: his own Gypsy Airs and Saint-Saëns’ Rondo capriccioso.

Violine

Nikita Boriso-Glebsky

Born in southern Russia, Nikita Boriso-Glebsky received the special award “Violinist of the Year” in 2009 and has been the exclusive artist of the Moscow Philharmonic Society since 2007. In addition to appearances at major European festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival, the much-acclaimed violinist has also performed with many Russian and European orchestras as well as chamber ensembles.

Recreation - The Orchestra

Recreation is special in many ways: consisting of musicians whose nationalities range from Japan to Venezuela, most of the members received part of their training in Graz. After its formation in 2002, the collective has played in unique halls such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt and has worked with outstanding conductors.

Mei-Ann Chen

Born in Taiwan, Mei-Ann Chen has lived in the US since 1989 and holds a doctorate in music (conducting) and a master’s degree in violin performance. One of America’s most promising young conductors, she was the first woman to win the Malko International Conductors Competition and has been appointed chief conductor of Recreation Graz beginning fall 2021.
