In the year 1673 Eggenberg Palace was resplendent for it was here that Archduchess Claudia Felicitas of Austria resided during the magnificent wedding celebrations for her marriage to Leopold 1. Beforehand, an intrigue at the Viennese Court very nearly prevented the marriage of this self-confident, musical woman to the Emperor but those who were envious of her failed to get their way. And it is this that court composer Antonio Draghi describes in his charming opera ballet Gl'incatesimi disciolti (Spells Dispelled), which had its premiere at the wedding in Graz. In the opera, Happiness and Goodwill fall in love but evil Envy casts a spell on them and they part. Only when Heaven intervenes is order restored. A fairy tale in the Planet Hall.

Johanna Rosa Falkinger

Soprano

Trained in Vienna and Linz, her engagements have taken her to the Salzburg Festival, the Wuppertal Opera and the Vienna Burgtheater, among others. This year, the winner of international competitions can be heard with Jordi Savall in Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, but she has also performed with the Concentus Musicus and the Vienna Academy.

Anna Manske

Mezzo-soprano

Born in Vienna, the mezzo-soprano is at home on both opera stages and concert platforms and has also been celebrated by our audiences since the Styriarte 2018. Her studies at the Mozarteum and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna were followed by numerous international appearances, for example at the Opéra national de Montpellier, the Vienna Musikverein and the Deutsches Theater Berlin.

Julian Habermann

Tenor

Even before his tenth birthday, the tenor, who is now a sought-after tenor throughout Europe, triumphed in the junior competition of the German National Singing Competition. As an interpreter of Bach in particular, the young opera and lieder singer is a guarantee for vocal splendour. He was also a member of the ensemble at the Hessian State Theatre in Wiesbaden until 2022.

Markus Schäfer

Tenor

The versatile tenor conquered the stages of the world with performances of Mozart and Bach’s Evangelist roles and celebrated successes as a Lied interpreter at lots of “Schubertiaden”. Under Nikolaus Harnoncourt he participated in a recording of the “St. Matthew Passion”, which was awarded a Grammy.

Dietrich Henschel

Bariton

The stylistic range of the Berlin baritone, born in 1967, extends from Monteverdi to contemporary premieres. In between are huge roles such as Mozart's Don Giovanni or Busoni's Doktor Faust, which won him a Grammy in 2001. In addition to his engagements at Europe's great theatres, Dietrich Henschel's devotion is also to the Lied.

Mareike Franz

Dancer & Choreographer

Influenced by dance visionary Susanne Linke, Mareike Franz tells stories with her body. In addition to working with renowned choreographers, the German dancer demonstrates creative sensitivity in unusual, transdisciplinary projects with non-professionals such as children, refugees or people with disabilities.

Ārt House 17

Ensemble

Diving deep into historical music and its history(ies): That is the mission of the young Graz-based ensemble Ārt House 17, for which Michael Hell and Georg Kroneis have brought together some of the best specialists in their field. Their repertoire ranges from Pergolesi to Mozart and Offenbach. The ensemble is currently establishing itself internationally and is celebrating huge successes at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, for example.

Michael Hell

Direction, Harpsichord, Recorder

Michael Hell, born in North Rhine-Westphalia, is a virtuoso on both the recorder and the harpsichord whose reputation extends far beyond his adopted home of Graz. He is also a leading expert in basso continuo and historical performance practice, who knows how to convey the rules and history of his art with infectious enthusiasm.

Lilli Hartmann

Stage designer

The opulence and playfulness of her sets never cease to amaze: Lilli Hartmann plays a decisive role in shaping the look of the Styriarte. The versatile artist from Rosenheim in Bavaria studied in London and worked for a long time in Madrid, outside the theatres she is also represented internationally with exhibitions and short films.
