The pleasures of a prince are always costly:
Nikolaus Esterházy, Haydn’s patron in Hungary, loved to show off his skill on the “baryton”, a precious viola da gamba with extra strings. The music Haydn wrote for this instrument is the perfect entertainment for a lovely summer evening in the courtyard of Schloss Eggenberg. Lorenz Duftschmid is surrounded by some of the best performers of early music in Europe for these stately divertimentos – a grand finale for the festival, including a sparkling Salzburg Divertimento by Mozart.
The performance lasts 60-70 minutes without an interval.
