the eternal question of “why”
Brahms described his greatest motet as a “necessary shadow” on his bright-as-day Second Symphony, which asks the eternal question of “why”: why do we humans have to endure so much suffering under the light of the sun? The Arnold Schoenberg Choir provides the answer in the unearthly, luminous choral music of Mendelssohn, Schumann, Ligeti and Pärt, in the surroundings of the most beautiful church interior of the Styrian Baroque.
