Per aspera ad astra
Bernd Glemser plays the two most famous of Beethoven’s works besides the Ninth: the Moonlight Sonata and the Fifth Symphony in Liszt’s piano arrangement. The ancient human saying “Per aspera ad astra” (Through hardship to the stars) finds its ultimate form in these pieces: to ascend through life’s difficulties to the starlight of art and knowledge.
Programme
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Sonata in C flat minor, op. 27, “Moonlight Sonata” Symphony No. 5 in C minor, op. 67 in the arrangement for piano by Franz Liszt
Absolute freedom and absolute control - these are apparently not opposites in Bernd Glemser's brilliant piano playing. The Swabian, born in 1962, won all the piano prizes at an early age and has since performed on the world's greatest stages. And audiences and the press are constantly amazed by the unrivalled quality and poetry of his performances.
