New Year’s Concert with 2 x Mozart
This is exactly what Mozart intended when he composed his Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat Major in Salzburg in 1779: a brilliant violinist and an exceptional viola player come forward from the orchestra and blend with the other instruments in a giant duet. The Mozart magic created on stage by Maria Kubizek, Nils Mönkemeyer and Michael Hofstetter at their New Year’s Concert leaves nothing to be desired.
The violinist studied in Vienna, Salzburg and London and was particularly influenced by Nikolaus Harnoncourt. As a concertmaster and soloist, Maria Kubizek has been active with a wide variety of orchestras and formations, drawing her inspiration from projects that go beyond the normal concert setting.
Whether original baroque literature, quirky rarities or innovative world premieres, the German violist and multiple Echo Klassik prizewinner always elicits new facets from his instrument. The professor at the Munich University of Music and Theatre exudes a creative spirit of discovery as a soloist and chamber musician from London to Tokyo.
Recreation is special in many ways: consisting of musicians whose nationalities range from Japan to Venezuela, most of the members received part of their training in Graz. After its formation in 2002, the collective has played in unique halls such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt and has worked with outstanding conductors.
The Munich-born conductor, born in 1961, has been a very close friend of Styriarte since his highly acclaimed work as chief conductor of the Recreation Orchestra (2012 - 2016). His excellence in the historical practice of baroque and classical music as well as his inspiring enthusiasm on the podium are in demand on the world's great concert and opera stages.
