An opera for children and the whole family
... played and sung by children’s choirs, child soloists, young string ensembles, recorder ensembles, brass ensembles, percussionists and more
Can children perform new music? Is it possible to get them excited about opera? The great British composer Benjamin Britten was convinced that it was possible. His secret was to make children the focus, give them take the leading roles, as he did in his 1958 opera Noye’s Fludde, based on a medieval mystery play recounting the biblical story of the ark, filled with all the animals in the world. Apart from the roles of God, Noah and his wife, all the parts are played by children and the music they make is wonderful. Simon Windisch stages the work with more than 150 children and teenagers from all over Styria.
