Conductor Florian Gross
With a wide-ranging repertoire, a keen understanding of people and music, and the ability to step in at short notice to take the conductor’s podium, he is a much sought-after artist on European stages. Following his studies at the KUG, engagements have taken him to venues including the Hanover State Opera, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Salzburg Festival. As musical assistant to Joana Mallwitz, he works with renowned orchestras across Europe – with upcoming engagements in Zurich, Salzburg, Baden-Baden and Berlin.

Florian Gross studied orchestral conducting, piano and répétition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz.
From 2016 to 2020, he worked as a répétiteur and subsequently as Deputy Head of Music at the Hanover State Opera, where he built up a broad repertoire across opera, musical theatre, operetta and ballet, alongside contributing to world premieres and German premieres.
Engagements have taken him to the Recreation Orchestra, Styriarte, the Lehár Festival Bad Ischl, the Salzburg Festival, the Opera House Bolzano, repeated collaborations with the Hanover State Opera, and to the Konzerthaus Berlin, where in December 2024 he stepped in at short notice for the indisposed Joana Mallwitz, taking over three concerts with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Julia Lezhneva.
Since the 2023/24 season he has been the permanent musical assistant to Joana Mallwitz, working among others with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the RIAS Chamber Choir, the Rundfunkchor Berlin, Deutsche Grammophon and renowned soloists.
Future engagements will take him in 2026 to the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Salzburg Festival and the Zurich Opera House, where he will make his house debut as a conductor.
As Senior Artist for Répétition (opera, song and oratorio) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, he also teaches piano/score reading and choral practice at the Johann Joseph Fux Conservatory – always committed to creating spaces for learning based on mutual respect and creative exchange.
