The clarinettist and composer Moritz Weiß focuses, alongside his classical music studies in Vienna, on the world music genre of “Klezmer and Yiddish music.” In recent years, the native of Fürstenfeld has developed the “Styrian Klezmer Connection” with various ensembles, including the Moritz Weiß Klezmer Trio, which has performed worldwide, and the duo Trenev & Weiß. He is also chairman of the Styrian Klezmore Orchestra.

As a composer, he gained particular attention with his work “Vocal Klezmer Sounds” (for instrumental ensemble and choir). Founded in 2018, the Styrian Klezmer Connection sees itself as a platform for Klezmer and Yiddish music in Styria and is part of the scholarship programme of the Klezmer Festival KlezKanada (Montreal) as well as the NASOM support programme of the Austrian Foreign Ministry. In 2020, Weiß was awarded the Morgenstern Culture Prize of the Province of Styria.

As a guest musician, he contributes to numerous ensembles and recordings, and was honoured with the Morgenstern Prize of Styria for his artistic work and cultural mediation.

In Styriarte 2027, Moritz Weiß is the curator for global music at Haus Styriarte.
