Life Story of a Blind Virtuoso

Als die Wienerin Maria Theresia Paradis anno 1783 mit ihrer Mutter zur Europa-Tournee aufbrach, wunderten sich alle Musikkenner und -kennerinnen über diese junge Frau: Von Kindesbeinen an blind, wirkte sie in ihrer Musik so sehend, visionär und kraftvoll wie die wenigsten ihrer männlichen Kollegen. Ragna Schirmer erzählt die Lebensgeschichte der blinden Virtuosin in deren eigener Musik, in Werken ihres Lehrers Koželuh und des jungen Beethoven.

The German pianist is considered an expert on the life and works of Clara Schumann and is praised for her attention to detail in her search for hidden historical and contemporary references. In addition to her artistic activities as a pianist and her recordings, which now include 17 CDs, Ragna Schirmer is also involved in cultural politics and as a teacher.
