An “Energy Boost” for 1st April
The advent of spring and the summer solstice as magical rituals, staged by one of the worldʼs leading piano duos. Igor Stravinskyʼs ballet The Rite of Spring tells the story of a spring sacrifice in Russia in dark prehistoric times. In his most famous comedy, William Shakespeare transformed Midsummer Eve into a dream of fairies and elves. The music that the Romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn composed for this occasion unfolds its full magic in his own arrangement for piano four-hands. Stravinskyʼs intricate rhythms sound even more modern on the piano than in the orchestra. An energy boost for April Foolsʼ Day.
