Ārt House 17

Ensemble

Diving deep into historical music and its history(ies): That is the mission of the young Graz-based ensemble Ārt House 17, for which Michael Hell and Georg Kroneis have brought together some of the best specialists in their field. Their repertoire ranges from Pergolesi to Mozart and Offenbach. The ensemble is currently establishing itself internationally and is celebrating huge successes at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, for example.

Philipp Mathmann

Countertenor

Born in Germany, Philipp Mathmann is considered a rising star among the countertenors of the baroque scene. In addition to his musical career and numerous appearances at international music festivals the singer studied medicine in Münster.

Dietrich Henschel

Bariton

The stylistic range of the Berlin baritone, born in 1967, extends from Monteverdi to contemporary premieres. In between are huge roles such as Mozart's Don Giovanni or Busoni's Doktor Faust, which won him a Grammy in 2001. In addition to his engagements at Europe's great theatres, Dietrich Henschel's devotion is also to the Lied.

Mario Lesiak

Tenor & Arciliuto

Coming from the field of classical guitar, Mario Lesiak discovered the beauty of the lute for himself. His passion for the delicate strings continues to this day and makes it a pleasure to listen to the musician and singer on the Renaissance and archlute.

Didac Cano

Actor, Acrobat

As a juggler and circus artist, acrobat Didac “Diegolow!” Cano works on his own projects and circus productions. Furthermore, the performer passes on his countless skills as a teacher, he works as a choreographer and lighting designer, among other things, and has thus gained an excellent reputation as a jack-of-all-trades.

Adrian Schvarzstein

Staging

Wherever this man appears, he guarantees to surprise us. Adrian Schvarzstein, born in Buenos Aires in 1967, is not only an actor and clown of international renown, but with his directing works inspired by commedia dell'arte, street art and circus, he turns every musical theatre piece into an adventure for audience and artists alike.

Thomas Höft

Dramatic adviser

Michael Hell

Direction, Harpsichord, Recorder

Michael Hell, born in North Rhine-Westphalia, is a virtuoso on both the recorder and the harpsichord whose reputation extends far beyond his adopted home of Graz. He is also a leading expert in basso continuo and historical performance practice, who knows how to convey the rules and history of his art with infectious enthusiasm.

A PLAY ABOUT EMANCIPATION

Café Zimmermann was once a highlight for the many visitors to Leipzig, city of trade fairs. After all it offered wonderful entertainment, both indoors and out, in the form of the Collegium Musicum, for whom the great Johann Sebastian Bach composed such light-hearted musical scenarios as the “Coffee Cantata”. Ārt House 17 and Adrian Schvarzstein make the setting a Styrian café, and Liesgen, the caffeine addict, is played and sung by a man, soprano Philipp Mathmann.

With us you are sure to get into the concert :)
