1996 gewann sie den Oscar für die beste Filmmusik („Emma“), 2000 hätte sie ihn beinahe erneut geholt („Chocolat“). Die Engländerin Rachel Portman hat den sechsten Sinn für das große Kino der Gefühle in der Musik. Ihre Violinsuite „Tipping Points“ ist dafür das schönste Beispiel: ein „Buch des Wandels“ über die vier Elemente in hinreißend schönen Melodien, wundervoll gespielt von Alexandra Tirsu. Wie viel drastischer man die vier Elemente im französischen Barock vertont hat, zeigt Ingmar Beck in der berühmten Ballettsuite von Jean-Féry Rebel.

Violin

The young Moldovan is regarded in the USA and Asia as one of the most brilliant violinists of her generation. Trained in Vienna and Switzerland, she favours 20th-century composers as well as Bach, Brahms and Britten. Highlights of her career to date include collaborations with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Korean Chamber Orchestra.

Recreation is special in many ways: consisting of musicians whose nationalities range from Japan to Venezuela, most of the members received part of their training in Graz. After its formation in 2002, the collective has played in unique halls such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt and has worked with outstanding conductors.
