Savall and Monteverdi

The shores of the Aegean Sea echo with the laments of the abandoned Ariadne. Jordi Savall conducts Monteverdi’s famous Lamento as a counterpart to the Styriarte opera 2022, “Arianna” by Fux. The crusader Tancredi also has to suffer the fatal consequences of love at the gates of Jerusalem: not recognizing her, he slays his own lover, the Muslim Clorinda, in a duel. Love and war are the contradictory forces in Monteverdi’s Eighth Book of Madrigals.
