Matthias Bartolomey

Violoncello

Active in both classical music and jazz, Matthias Bartolomey comes from one of the most important Viennese music dynasties. His father and forefathers were Vienna Philharmonic musicians. His family background and his many years as solo cellist in the Concentus Musicus as well as his chamber music and solo activities with many renowned musicians have allowed Matthias Bartolomey to inhale both the baroque and the classical aesthetics of the violoncello.

Content

connecting past and present

„Solo – Zwei Instrumente I eine Sprache“, Matthias Bartolomey’s new solo programme is a musical dialogue spanning 300 years, from movements from Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous suites for violincello solo to Bartolomey’s own, new compositions, characterised by groove and rock. His choice of instruments also reflects this dialogue: Bartolomey plays Bach's suites on a cello built by David Tecchler in Rome in 1727, his own music on a contemporary copy of this historical instrument.
