Corona Meditation by Gerd Kührshare on facebook Uraufführung
It happened right between the dress rehearsal and the world premiere of Gerd Kühr’s opera “Stallerhof” in Bavaria that our old world was shut down by the virus, and the composer had to return to his hometown Graz. Only a few days ago he was supposed to conduct Ligeti’s violin concerto and Mozart’s 40th Symphony with Patricia Kopatchinskaja and our orchestra recreation. But of course that was not possible either.
But here comes the good thing about all this: Gerd Kühr found the leisure to write the piece of the time, “Corona Meditation”, a work for any number of pianos and for pianists of different artistic levels. It is precisely meant to be performed on the Internet – in that one space that is currently open to art.
The styriarte has happily accepted Mr. Kühr’s offer to release this extraordinary piece – right now.
