Palais Attems Vocal Academy

A new format for the Styriarte: the Palais Attems Vocal Academy. No less a person than Dame Emma Kirby passes on her vast experience in authentic Baroque singing to young singers to bring a 400-year-old masterpiece, Heinrich Schütz’s Cantiones Sacrae, to life. In 1625 the 30-Years War was into its seventh year when Schütz dedicated his Latin motets to “ the most illustrious Prince Anton Ulrich, lord of Krumau and Eggenberg”: a vision of peace between the warring parties written by the greatest Protestant musician of his time for the councillor of the Catholic Emperor.

Soprano

Iryna Synovets

The Ukrainian soprano studied choral conducting and singing in Kiev at the Glier Kyiv Municipal Academy of Music and at the Ukrainian Tchaikovsky Academy. She is currently studying with Tanja Vogrin at the KUG in Graz. She performed as a soloist with the baroque ensemble ‘Musikia’ at the Stockholm Early Music Festival in 2023. With the vocal ensemble ‘OpenOpera Ukraine’, Iryna Synovets took part in the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht with a Ukrainian baroque programme.

Heini Ernamo

The Finnish soprano is studying baroque music at the Novia University of Applied Sciences in Vaasa and music education in Turku. Heini Ernamo is a founding member of the Uoma Vocal Ensemble, which specialises in Renaissance music, and a member of the Kamarikuoro Key Ensemble in Turku. She sang first soprano in Bach's Mass in B minor and was a soloist in Purcell's ‘Hail, bright Cecilia’.

Inkeri Aittola

Die Finnin studierte an der Sibelius Akademie Kirchenmusik mit Schwerpunkt Chorleitung. An der Novia University of Applied Sciences in Vaasa widmet sie sich dem barockem Gesang. Interi Aittola leitet in Finnland den Västnyländska kammarkören und das Vokalensembles Vox Aroni. Sie sang sich als Solistin bereits durch ein breites geistliches Programm und einige Opernrollen.

Alejandro López Ramiro

Alejandro López Ramiro developed a passion for countertenor singing at the Real Conservatorio de Música y Danza in Madrid. From 2016 to 2019, he studied with Flavio Ferri-Benedetti and also completed his studies in ‘Renaissance and Baroque Singing’ in Italy. Following joint stage projects with renowned specialists, he is currently working in Vienna with the Arnold Schoenberg Choir and the Rosauro Ensemble.

Martin Kautzsch

Martin Kautzsch completed his initial musical training at the music grammar school in Memmingen in the Allgäu region in regional and national choirs and the Audi Youth Choir Academy. He is currently studying with countertenor Carlos Mena at the Schola Cantorum in Basel. He is particularly interested in the historically informed interpretation of early music from the Middle Ages to the Baroque with a special focus on ensemble singing.

Michael Craddock

As a founding member of ‘The Gesualdo Six’, the English tenor toured with the award-winning ensemble to America, Asia, Australia and across Europe until 2025. Following collaborations with international artists such as Matilda Lloyd, the Brodsky Quartet, Odhecaton and the London Mozart Players, Michael Craddock now works regularly with the Choir of the London Oratory and ensembles such as London Choral Sinfonia and the BBC Singers.

Ihor Kolomiiets

The Ukrainian bass-baritone studied conducting, harpsichord and basso continuo at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. The conductor of the Graz BläserVielharmoniE Orchestra also researches Ukrainian music of the Baroque and early 20th century. He has travelled to the Stockholm Early Music Festival and to France with the baroque ensemble ‘Musikia’. At the KUG, he conducted Vilma Webenau's ‘Ballade vom Spielmann’, among others.

Jan Kukal

The young baritone has been studying singing at the Academy of Performing Arts in his home city of Prague since 2021. Jan Kukal gained his first stage experience with the Collegium Vocale Salzburg and in opera roles at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen. His greatest successes include 1st prize at the Bohuslav Martinů Singing Competition in Prague and reaching the final of the international competition ‘Let's Sing’ at the National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Sofia.

Diving deep into historical music and its history(ies): That is the mission of the young Graz-based ensemble Ārt House 17, for which Michael Hell and Georg Kroneis have brought together some of the best specialists in their field. Their repertoire ranges from Pergolesi to Mozart and Offenbach. The ensemble is currently establishing itself internationally and is celebrating huge successes at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, for example.
