the land of gold
New York, the city that never sleeps, was “di goldene Medine” – the land of gold – for Jewish immigrants. Here Miss Liberty waved the flame of freedom, hope, and work. Thanks to the street lighting, this flame lit up Manhattan brightly even at night, when the public set off for the vaudeville shows with their captivating songs and catchy rhythms. Klezmer clarinetist Moritz Weiß brings the pulsating energy of those New York nights to Graz. His special guest with the Styrian Klezmore Orchestra is Clara Montocchio as the voice of the “Roaring Twenties” in the Big Apple.
A Styrian orchestra with an individual approach to music, with people who are anything but streamlined, with professional young artists who put not only their talents but also their personalities at the service of music. Klezmer and the Balkans - they are many things, but not a musical and cultural one-way street.
Alongside his classical music studies in Vienna, clarinettist and composer Moritz Weiß is dedicated to the world genre of "Klezmer and Yiddish Music". In recent years, the Fürstenfeld native has built up the "Styrian Klezmer Connection" with various ensembles, including the Moritz Weiß Klezmer Trio, the Duo Trenev & Weiß and the Styrian Klezmore Orchestra.
