Louis Spohr: Overture to “Der Alchymist”, WoO 57
Lars-Erik Larsson: Saxophone Concerto, op. 14
Felix Mendelssohn: Meeresstille und glückliche Fahrt, op. 27
Symphony No. 1 in C minor, op. 11
Our round trip across Europe starts in the north, in Sweden and Berlin: Gerald Preinfalk plays the Saxophone Concerto by Larsson – a hot number and not an icy Swedish swim in the Baltic sea. In 1832, young Mendelssohn had already taken many delightful trips through Europe. He enchanted the people of Berlin with his magnificent overture about a calm sea that suddenly surges up to become a beautiful swell. The captain on our dream ship, Patrick Hahn from Styria, is the rising star at the conductor’s stand.
