Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony No. 36 in C major, K 425, “Linz”
Markus Schirmer has always wanted to play Alfred Schnittke’s concerto for piano and strings. The German-Russian saw music history as a spiral and created a playful synthesis of Mozart, Haydn, Bach, Shostakovich and many more. His humorous “Moz-Art à la Haydn” became a symbol for this. Marie Jacquot, the young conductor from France, conducts the two compositions by Schnittke and frames them in classics: in Mozart’s “Linz” symphony and in the Symphony in D major by Mozart’s adversary Antonio Salieri.
